Quiet, yet touching moment between parents and bride.
This image is all about the expressions on the parents faces. The composition leads the viewer directly to the bride with the line of people and the edge of the table. Nicely done.
A mom reaches for her daughter's hand in a jest of love and comfort, while dad looks on with quiet joy, just before the ceremony. Such telling stories are what I look for when showing the loving dynamic between family members. They are the visual remains of the family bonds that live forever.
Almost looks choreographed with the framed photo in the center of the frame but since this is a wedding photojournalist contest we know that isn't the case. This image was my top choice because I thought the image was not only well executed but the expression captured on the parents face tells it all. Well done.
Fantastic use of shallow depth of field. The compression of the smiling woman in the background and the bride's back frames the mother's face perfectly. The mother's expression is so powerful that we only need to see one eye to understand what she must be feeling.
Such a wonderful tender moment. It is as if the kiss lingered as a way of keeping the bride from leaving. Almost perfect B&W tonality and simple yet effective composition allows the viewer to lock onto the mother's expression.
