This was a striking photo, and one where I was dying for a caption to know more about the story! The photographer shot at the right time as well, with the hand of the make-up person raised, allowing for a lyrical quality to the photo as well.
I kept coming back to this picture. The color and lighting is great, and I just think the photographer captured something significant with what this poor child is being subjected to. The composition is nice with all the hands as entry points into the photo.
I was really happy with the number of images in this category that were classic photojournalistic moments, sometimes I see too many images relying on just cool composition. I was drawn to this image because it had nice layering AND a humorous moment.
