Creative Portrait of Bridal Party

Judges Comments
Concept, execution and degree of difficulty are factors in exceptional Bridal Party portraits. This photograph has the contemporary feel of “realism” fashion photography. It is both casual and elegant. Supplemental light balances the backlit scene. The bridal party members are in a real setting behaving naturally. The grouping seems unforced, yet the composition directs attention to the bride and groom. The photograph creates the appearance of being a real, albeit almost perfect moment.

Truly eye-catching. The deadpan serious expressions juxtaposed with the Groucho Marx nose and eyeglass disguise is genius.

Use of silhouette in umbrella was a great, creative way to make a memorable portrait of the wedding party. A real eye grabber that works well both technically and functionally.

I’ve seen the holding the flashes trick before, but this is done so well it doesn’t matter. Very nice, very fun.

Just because you’ve seen one photograph of a wedding party jumping in the air doesn’t mean you’ve seen them all. This photo has style. The bride is positioned in front of the setting sun and is an integral part of the performance. The jumpers play their parts well. The supplemental lighting is well balanced. The composition is strong and the photograph is engaging.

Everything about this picture is cool. The cobblestone street to the checker socks - This could either be the groom and groomsmen or a new rock band.

Creative and ambitious situation, carried off very well, especially considering bouncing boat and light challenges.

Location is as important to a good bridal party portrait as it is to the purchase of a house. This photographer had the good fortune and the presence of mind to take advantage of a stage, a backdrop and scaffolding to create an unusual and arresting image of the wedding party. Everyone is having fun and that helps make this a relaxed and engaging portrait.

This was a nice surprise. Playful sentiment.

Reminiscent of the great, old portraits taken of the Beatles using catchy, motion blur of wedding party to accentuate bride and groom. Very effective.

Great use of architecture mixed into this bridal party portrait.

Sometimes the best plans are allowing life to happen. I’m not sure if the photographer ask them to chat, or gathering them all together created just a moment in time of joy. Regardless you feel the like you’re part of the crowd. Oh and the background reflecting the color of the bouquets was a nice touch.

This is great. Group photos can be so difficult to get so many people to cooperative, but this exceeds expectation. I love how animated everyone is the group.

Sometimes everything just comes together. And sometimes it takes practice and repetition to get it right. There is no way to know how many times this bride was tossed in the air before the photographer got the right image. But this one is it. The bride’s expression of amazement as she is tossed in the air matches the expressions of the men waiting to catch her with arms raised. It is a peak moment as she is just about to come down. The barn in the background is simple and unobtrusive and does not interfere with the moment. It’s a fun image.

Beautifully done.

Shot on our Mamiya C330 TLR using Fuji Pro400h 220 film. Found this location scouting the property day before. I loved the way the light multiplied from their white shirts to almost wash out the guys in the back.

Eye-catching way to compose the group. Sun adds dramatic effect as well.

This is a wedding party portrait with attitude. The symmetrical arrangement of the 3 boys in front leads the eye to the bride and groom standing behind them. The pose is casual. All of the males have their hands in their pockets with their coats open. The bride has one hand on her hip. The background is simple and unobtrusive, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the faces. The only individual looking directly into the camera is the groom. The expressions are challenging, almost severe, as if to say, “This better be good.” It is.
