Great use of ambient and strobe lighting combined with slow shutter made dance photograph memorable. Just enough panning to create elegant, feel of dance while isolating the couple to capture the dreamy mood of the evening.

This is a well-composed black and white image. The bride is centered in the frame and photographed from a low angle. She faces forward and stands out against the dark background in her white wedding gown. The hands of the other dancers seem to point to her. Her hands and shoulders are raised in movement to the music and you know from her smile that she is enjoying herself. She is radiant and as she dances she is the center of attention. And that’s how it’s supposed to be at a wedding reception.

There are so many highlights of a reception, the dancing, cutting the cake, tossing the garter, it’s nice to see someone pay attention to the not so obvious moments. Both seem to need each other at this moment, a bride so busy, taking a moment to look after a child. Precious moment.

To me this picture is all about the contrast. Based upon the dress, the setting, the formality of the scene, makes a perfect place for an unexpected exaggerated kiss. I love the structure of the composition, again playing off the moment. Well done!

Wedding receptions are all about celebration, and photographs of people having a good time abound. This photo of the bride sitting on her (presumed) new husband’s shoulders as he prances around the dance floor depicts perhaps the first time in their married life when they don’t see things quite the same way. As family and friends urge the couple on the bride laughs and waves to the crowd. She is certainly enjoying herself. He, however, holds his lower stomach and winces in obvious pain. It’s a de-coupling moment, if you will. And it’s very funny! The delayed shutter captures the ambient light, the slightly tilted composition adds to the feeling of revelry and the strobe freezes the motion of the couple and captures a truly decisive moment. This could have been a winner in the humor category as well.

The tossing of the bride’s bouquet frequently results in interesting wedding photographs, often humorous. Sometimes, as with this photograph, they are full of anticipation. Except for the fact that the bride’s right hand has mostly been eliminated from the frame, I like everything about the composition of this photograph. As a viewer I am caught in the moment, waiting for the bouquet to fall and wondering which lady will be the lucky one.

There is obviously symbolism with this bread, but I’m guessing based upon the brides expression, or the hiding of it, makes me think the groom’s approach is a bit different. Really well composed especially for a crowd shot, I like the fact the center of the photo is the groom not the woman holding the break, everybody is carefully framed in the photo. Very nice.
