Emotion

This picture has very intense emotion that made it easily rise above others. I'd like to know the story behind it; the viewer can really feel their pain. The composition is pretty clean and I like how we can only see one eye of the woman on the left.
There is certainly a lot of emotion in this image. Intense.

Men often emote less than women, so strong pictures of men were less common in this category. This is a beautiful image and the low perspective really helps the figures stand out. The bride's body language adds a lot as well.
Lovely moment. You can feel the love. Beautiful.

The photographer captured a rare intimate moment. This is a behind the scenes moment one rarely sees.
A very touching scene in a rather unusual setting (are they on a train?). The heads touching, arm around shoulders, the young boy reaching over to join hands .... everything comes together to make us feel we're unobtrusively witnessing a very private moment.

There's just enough depth of field to allow the bride's smile to strengthen, in juxtaposition, the woman's almost tearful reaction to her joy. It's a quiet but telling moment, sensitively portrayed.

Emotion! This photographer nailed it! Timed the tear streaking over her lips perfectly.

They don’t get any better than this. The feelings and emotion in this photo are very strong.

A tender moment, which the photographer was privileged to share and then to share with others for decades. Of course, the tears convince me that this situation was just better than the others that were similar in this series. Also the selective focus and close crop helps this particular prizewinner.

Being there and not taking away from that intimacy of the moment would be a strong factor in the success of that photograph—only the photographer and the family know about that.

This is documentary photography. Bravo. The old woman is giving her blessing to the bride and groom.
Timeless. Nice job.

A lot going on in this one. I like the way it all comes together from the bride crying, to the child’s reflection, and the groom looking on.

A touching moment as groom and bride together wipe away tears. Simple but effective. The hands at the far left of the photo are somewhat distracting; cropping them out would clean up the picture a bit.

Good job of using the winding road to lead the viewer into the group, and the joyous energy of the laughing men contrasts nicely with the quiet scene.

The show of emotion in the hug works well in this vertical crop. The picture flows very well.

I would love to know the roles that this couple played in this particular wedding, but it is an emotional moment.

Another great face that may have had a little more impact had it been shot tighter. I love those wrinkles! Nice clean shot.

The timing is perfect and the reaction of the people in the background helps a great deal.
