This category was the most fun to judge because of the diversity of images. The bride climbing into the car is a fun, unusual detail. I love the one spot of color

Good use of shallow depth of field to isolate the hand and scarf. The image has a wonderful flow of elements (the main subject's hand and the man's arm and hands repeating the same line). Also good use of backlighting to illuminate the fabric all while capturing the kiss.

Hard to beat this detail of the identical sunglasses in the cleavage of the dresses. And the red drinks bring you around in this nicely executed color photograph

This is a striking silhouette of a lace veil. Nice, clean and beautiful.

The color and light in this photo are beautiful. It pushes the idea of what a detail is, but I think it works. I like the sense of space added by including the door, mirror and chair.

An interesting view of the arrival of the bride. The fact that her feet are not quite on the ground creates a nice tension with the man's formal patent leather shoes turning to greet her. Nice job of seeing something boring in an unusual way.

Shoes work very well with the message on the background here. Nice composition and light.

Love the details of the freckles on this boy and the crop works very well. Wish the little bit of white wasn't in the background.

Nice detail that illustrates the emotions going on. Good job to the photographer for paying attention to the hands

This image offered one of the strongest story-telling moments of the detail shot category entries. Though it captures a fun moment, I wish the quality of light and composition was more dynamic. I find the dirty feet need to dominate the frame more. Maybe a tighter and more upward angle would have helped. As it is, I find a crop slightly from both sides and from the bottom helps isolate the feet from the background.

I had a high school friend who separated her eyelashes with a pin. It gave me the creeps then, and it gives me the creeps now. I saw a lot of brushes and sponges around eyes – but this was the only safety pin. Makes you want to scream “don't moveâ€. And most of the detail shots don't evoke an emotion – which is something we want photojournalistic pictures to do.

This image has a unique and intriguing inclusion of elements. The animal pelt with its open mouth offers a stark and engaging contrast to the room's otherwise delicate mood. There's just enough separation between the pelt and the woman's feet. Also including just a hint of her arm serves the composition nicely.

This is a small but nice moment with pleasing light. It was an unusual addition to this group of pictures.

There are lots of great details in the photo. I wish the photo were a little tighter to emphasize all the tiny features. Great graphic feel by shooting from above.

Clearly defined composition adds to the color and juxtaposition of this graphic image.

Excellent use of shallow depth of field to isolate the eye lashes. Composition is also strong as is the use of light. But overall the image has a posed portrait feel, which knocked it down.

Surprising framing of the make-up artist's eye makes this picture. Nice turn of events from the brides' eyes. The photographer was working this situation.
