This image rose to the top by capturing a strong moment in nice light with a wonderful composition. The moment translates both joy and spontaneity. Compositionally, the frame is filled nicely with the veil and rose petals in the air. The low angle helps set the bride and groom against a very clean background. The wedding guests add story-telling context and are nicely placed. The photographer is obviously in close proximity to the subjects but his/her presence is not felt.

The bride's face is priceless here in her jubilant expression with the groom. Beautiful light in a room that looks dark and hard to shoot in. Especially love the rim light on the groom's face. I'm sure they have this picture framed on their wall. What a great memory for them.

Great gesture and reaction from the groom. The woman smiling on the right also adds a nice element to the background. The photographer captured a very nice connection between the two of them.

The image captures an unexpected moment and is well composed with the clergy member in just the perfect spot. Good use of wide-angle lens.

Love the little boy's expression here. Would have probably won first in the Kids category because it's just a perfect kid moment. The framing of the groomsmen and their expression really add to this photo.

Another unexpected moment, as the groom yawns as he's kneeling at the altar. Where are his manners? The fact that the bride and her maid of honor are looking right at him is great. He's caught in the act.

Nice action and reaction. Good job to the photographer who was ready for this moment and able to work it into fun framing. I wish the background was a little cleaner, but it doesn't detract much from the faces.

Oh, I just cringe looking at this picture! Good job catching just the right moment in the groom's reaction. The light is also nice.

This photo has a lot of action that makes it a strong photo. Expression of the groom in the middle of all the chaos is a funny moment. Again the photographer has done a great job recording this moment where not one person is looking at the camera!

This picture grew on me the more I looked at it. I wasn't crazy about the big light at the doorway and the composition is not great, however fine under the circumstances. But the over the shoulder glance of the maid of honor to the bride as if to ask “are you ready good friend? Here we go,†speaks to the commitment of everyone involved in a wedding -- not just the bride and groom. It is a very nice moment.

This is a lovely tender moment. There is a quiet 'fly-on-the-wall' feel to it that is a hallmark of good documentary photography

Beautiful expression and framing with slow shutter speed makes this a dramatic photo with an artistic feeling.

This is a funny moment with the bored flower girl. It's more subtle, but still a funny, unexpected view.

Great job getting in close while remaining unobtrusive. Upward angle allows one to see the groom's expression. Also including the wedding guests on the right adds to the story-telling moment.

The photographer took a bit of risk in perhaps missing the moment between the bride and groom by shooting through the bag piper. And it worked. Nice use of shallow depth of field so it's easy to find the couple even though the bag piper is so dominate in the frame. Many images in this category had a one-dimensional feel and lacked this more sophisticated layering.

I flat-out love this bride's face and smile. There are not many photos in this competition that dare to zero in quite like this. It is refreshing and full of happiness.

Just a bizarre photo with the father of the bride holding a sign as a bagpiper leads them to the ceremony. Nicely framed with the bagpiper in the foreground and a sense of place with the water in the background.

This is a nice surprise – good seeing. It's a clever way to work a dress detail into the ceremony. The curve of the ceiling also adds to the circular composition which is nice.
