In the Washington news business, the technique of putting the subject between the camera and the light was called, “Riding the light†This was a good job of riding the light and the lighting of the people at the tables make this much more. The fact that the foreground and the balloons are not burned out is another factor in making this a winner.

This photo works because of the groom's reaction to the confetti falling on them. It is a nice moment of a couples early hours of marriage. Nice motion. Lively image. I like the strobe. Light works. Depth of field is perfect.

This picture exhudes elegance. The lighting, position of the couple dancing, and the angle of the photo are what makes this stand out. The use of color and composition creates a beautiful mood and makes this a strong image

Real slice of life moment in this picture. Glad the photographer made the guests the focus. Great moment to capture. Great emotion. If the photographer had gotten down just a little bit and eliminated the guy over the man's shoulder this would have ranked higher. Other than that it is a charming picture.

I like all the elements in this photo. It is simple, yet sophisticated. It is a great black and white image.

6th Place: Anne Almasy from Georgia, United StatesJudges Comments
This photo worked so well for me because of the intimacy that comes through, like the couple feels that they are the only ones in the room. The balloons, spectators and color added more layers to make this a stong image.

It's not just about the dance here; it's about being swept up in emotion and that's why this is a great photo!

8th Place: Charlotte Geary from Virginia, United StatesJudges Comments
I liked the low angle of this photo showing the beauty of the room. The couple is truly on stage in front of a packed house. The photographer certainly nailed the moment and made it look different.

Perfect use of long lens isolating the couple's moment. The center-weighted composition gives the symmetrical balance that makes this excellent.

Shooting from the outside in produced a great photo. The photographer's instinct to be positioned outside the tent for the first dance certainly paid off.

The framing of this photo with the guest's emotion adding another level of emotion makes this a strong image.

The eye contact makes this a winner plus the use of a medium length lens where other photographers would be shooting with a 35mm lens or wider.

13th Place: Adi Susanto from Jakarta, IndonesiaJudges Comments
I like the painterly quality of the framing and light on this couple. Simple and beautiful.

14th Place: David Christensen from Georgia, United StatesJudges Comments
This high angle works very well and highlights the couple dancing. Don't know if the camera twirl is needed here. But, the motion works to document the moment.

15th Place: Mike Day from Ontario, CanadaJudges Comments
This couple has danced many times and have made a great photo.

16th Place: Andrea Bibeault from Nebraska, United StatesJudges Comments
Strong graphic composition with beautiful expression on the groom as his wife is blurred in motion gives this photo a nice impressionistic feel.

Great study of the little dramas that happen at weddings. Loved this fringe moment

The strobes to light the people and give depth of field for a sharp focus helps here. Steve Liss could not have done it better.

I like the way the bride and groom are swept away in this image as if there isn't a room full of guests.

The bride staring into her husband's eyes is what holds this photo together. It is lit nicely, and they are a very good looking couple caught in a very special moment of their lives.
