Cake Cutting

The vantage point of the photographer makes the viewer feel like a voyeur peeping into a magical private moment in this couple's life. Kudos for getting an interesting picture from outside looking in. The inside light works with the sky at dusk. So much better than the usual photos from the cake cutting.

The simple, unexpected nature of the gesture is what got me. The mildly salacious reaction on the part of the groom and the bride's wonderful reaction bodes well for this couple. This is just a lovely moment, unexpected but the photographer was fast enough to capture it. This ability to move and react fast is the hallmark of a good news photographer.

This picture has a wide range of grey between the black and white. It portrays longing well. The pensive child and all the elements near the cake, make this picture beautiful and timeless.

The bride and groom kiss and cut but the kids couldn't care less about them. The kids are absorbed in the cake. It is the chaos of the photo that I love. It was not as technically well done with it's straight flash but the moment trumped the technique.

It seems to be a 60's picture or they seem to be theatre actors. It's an unusual picture about cake cutting and the two faces and the landscape on the paintings complete this amusing big fresco about humanity.

What can you say? This may define the relationship... He is mischievous, and she is doing the wifely thing already. Good embodiment of male/female relationships. The gesture carries the day, despite the bare tree in the background.

You can feel what is coming. You can read it in her face and body language. It is this sense of anticipation that makes the photo. The straight flash bothers me again but the sense of the passage of time sells the image.

This picture has two layers to it and they work well with each other.

A really mysterious and intriguing picture. The subjects seem to be in trance or adoring the cake. This picture teaches us that it's possible to take different pictures also in "classical" and sometimes repetitive moments like the cake cutting in a wedding party.

Good reaction shot of the bride looking at the groom. All the faces in the background help the composition. Though the focus is on the bride, the scene is set with the cake at the left and the piece of cake framed nicely in the groom's hand.

Good use of slow shutter speed and flash. Does look more like a birthday cake than a wedding cake.

These are folks big of stature and big of heart. They love life and each other, quite obviously. Great high moment. Well handled interior light.

This is technically excellent, almost perfect. The photographer is a master of lighting and the master of his or her camera. I sometimes prefer the technically less perfect photo that hits on the rare moment of serendipity. This is the one I would hire for my wedding

Survives completely on unusual samurai approach to cake cutting. Just haven't seen this before and it opens up a new approach to an old event. Good peak action as well.

Good stopped action of the bride and the way her hand is reaching into the face of the groom. The pie on her face is the difference. The faces in the background are also positioned nicely and add to the moment

Technically not much. I don't like the windows (but you shoot what you have in front of you) but the smile on his face says what the cake feeding thing is all about. Photographer has good timing.

The lighting here is excellent and there is a good sense of action--a subject within a subject.

Another different, reflective and timeless picture, not just about cake cutting, but also about presence and absence in human life.
