The category is ceremony, and this frame captures it. The pomp, the majesty, the event importance and staging. The, in a word, ceremony. We are given the impression here of being let into the personal world of the bride and groom. We feel we are really a part of their special day.

How could anyone pass on this? It is a delightful moment. The photographer saw it and had the presence of mind to get LOW to capture it. Technically well done. It is the serendipity I mentioned above that I love. It is a real moment and you see the photographer's mind working the situation.

It's not straightforward. You have to strain to see the object. The exposure is properly used to pass the message of the picture to the viewer. It also shows the mood of the situation and properly uses the special architecture of the church.

A beautiful feature picture about a ceremony. A concentrate of emotions and stories. A precious instant of life.

This was a difficult category to judge because so many pictures seemingly could have been in another category. That said, I went with what I thought were the best pictures. This one is an exquisite moment that puts you right there emotionally. The telephoto lens brings you straight to the moment, but the faces in the background bring this one to the top.

Sheer exuberance and lovely capture. The moment just explodes with the "we did it" feeling many couples have. The tonalities, angle, and composition all work. Tough frame to beat.

Great use of light passes on to the viewer the mystic feeling of the wedding. The crop is a little too wide.

A really interesting picture, almost magic. The groom seems to be surrounded by angels. Beautiful, intense.

Elegant. It has all the essential elements to say wedding at Yosemite and is stunning in its simplicity. It shows wedding and place in just a few objects. Excellent thinking on the photographer's part.

Beautifully composed and balanced. Great use of B&W. The mood captured here is hushed, anticipatory, and wonderfully done. Great play between the highlight window and the highlight dresses.

A backstage scene of the groom apparently moments before the ceremony. Again, you can feel his emotion as he's seemingly in thought about how his life is about to change. The way this photo is framed with the priest on the right makes this work.

Timing is everything. This is what the news photographer is looking for. The action starts, you see it and react instantly. This is that kind of reaction. I do not care about the railings, he went for the moment.

A beautiful realistic picture about the backstage and the emotion before the beginning of the "performance".

A device, to be sure, but very well done. Nice kick of the angle of approach, and good look at the bride. Good use of symbol...a tangible, meaningful symbol. Done before, but this is well done.

There is a dramatic contrast between black and white, the background and the subject, and between the balance and the composition.

Great moment, great composition. A circle reading where the hands and the faces tell us a lot of stories about this special moment.

The look on the woman's face steals this image. Technically a little off in the printing (too light at top) but the look on the face makes up for all the other problems. Seeing the emotion and reacting to it is very important for the news photographer. It is what sets us apart.

Just a bizarre moment where the bride and groom are apparently cutting up her dress. The photo definitely catches your attention because it's such an unusual moment; here is where a caption would come in handy. It's framed pretty well with the faces in the background. I wish we could see that the bride, too, has a pair of scissors.

A nice overview scenic of a couple walking to their ceremony on the beach. This was a tough choice between a lot of other worthy contenders but I felt that a scene setter like this is often overlooked.

COMMENTS: A fantastic, intense moment enhanced by the incredible light and landscape. A painting.
