Getting Ready

To be able to have the confidence to take a step back and show the entire room and the person looking out the window and getting ready was a good choice. The moment was just right, the light was interesting, the gesture is funny and humor is always good. This picture has a bit more of an edge to it and I have to say that I gravitate towards that. I also like that the person's alone which is so rare from many of the photographs in the category.

Raw energy, excitement, originality, emotion and overall fun. I am definitely in the room and feel all the emotions of the different people from the little girl in the foreground to the bride who is enjoying the moment to the woman smiling and primping the dress to the whole group of people in the back. This picture feels almost timeless in some ways and I love that because it could be someone getting ready for their wedding forty years ago or today or forty years from now. To me that's a successful photograph. Photographs must be felt and if you cannot feel the image then what's the point? You are simply recording what's in front of you, but this image takes it further. Bravo.

Simply constructed yet says it all. Helps that the photographer had such a character.

All the elements work in this picture: light, composition, tension and it's a nice moment of the bride in the mirror but it just doesn't have enough variety of emotion and tension. I do like it though. I love the use of the mirrors and it's a good solid frame and I kept on coming back to it.

Great moment, use of light and composition. The photographer made good use of natural light silhouetting the bridesmaids repetitive gestures while providing nice rim lighting on the bride. The dark door frame also frames the bride, which accentuates the light on her face.

Especially after viewing all of the bride-putting-on-her dress shots, this one stood out. Graceful and well exposed.

This is a wonderful raw moment. I love the curlers and the squinted eyes. I wish the curlers weren't cut off on the top and/or if this was shot with longer glass bringing us into their faces and the curlers and less of the girls arm on the right. Given the spontaneousness of the moment I'm not sure the photographer would have had time to switch it up.

Nice layers and fun faces. Watch the toning on the far right women--breaking up a bit.

I like this picture because it feels like the little girl is wrapped in a cocoon and there's so much warmth and love and she's just relaxing and went to sleep before the big day. The light's wonderful and the toning on the picture works because you can just make out the hands buttoning and the little girl through the arms sleeping. I felt it was so simple yet effective and great photographs don't have to be complex, layered pics to work.

This is a great moment and good use of lensing. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of anticipation and preparation to nail a photo like this.

Hi-key lighting behind the bride trailing off to rim lighting on the on-looking little girl wearing the crown of flowers gives this photo the feel of a painting.

Straight good fun. I like the moments and the approach. I feel the women in the room and I love the people hugging while the woman sits, drinks her champagne and enjoys being doted on. Nice frame.
