5th place in Silhouettes and Shadows

Wedding photographer Alessandro Avenali, was awarded 5th place for photo 1996136 in the Silhouettes and Shadows category for the WPJA's 2017 Tri1 Photography Competition.

The WPJA contest judges presented Alessandro Avenali, a Roma, Italy wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.

The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

  • I enjoyed how this image revealed itself slower than usual. For instance, the row of coupled statuettes along the building's roofline, the wispy white veil against a white highlight that is only seen shortly after we see the attendant's hands grasping at the air. A millisecond later, I noticed the bride's escort in his black tuxedo against a black background of course. Visual "playtime" can be fun!
