1st place in Lens Flare / Refraction
The WPJA contest judges presented Chiara Ridolfi, a Roma, Italy wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- This is a lovely and evocative image that has the power to transport viewers to another realm. The flare frames the connection between the little girls perfectly.
- What a beautiful image of a child making her own wildcard portrait of young girls walking hand-in-hand holding heart balloons. Give her another ten years and she might be entering the contest too. I like to think photography chooses us as a partner with it on a long journey on an endless train with many stations. We travel as far as we choose and share our memories as best we can. This image is another treasure along the way - a recorded moment, a memory that is as much felt as seen.
