Photographer's Comment

The cake smash was little less than a handful when they picked it up with their hands. They had that look on each others face as if to say "If you do this, I will too". Good fun came after that look, and the caked smash was a perfect timing. It was 1 of 10 photos I took at F 3.2 (safe for any movement) 250 Shutter with flash fill bounced off ceiling behind me. I didn't know this was a crowning moment until I saw it full screen.

Judges

  • Good color palette and nicely composed moment.
  • I couldn’t resist this rather avant-garde image of a bride and groom standing before their rose-tiered cakes in the midst of a heated cake-eating smack down. But what really struck me is how relatively “clean” this photo is. There’s nary a crumb falling nor hint of smeared icing between their fingers or anywhere else. In fact, there’s no clue that even the tiniest slice has been carved from either of those three red, white and green cakes. Nonetheless we can assume that somewhere beneath their palms is a crumbly, creamy, sticky mess.
