9th place in Reception Ambiance
The WPJA contest judges presented Mary Kate McKenna, a Maryland, United States wedding photographer, with this Master Piece Award as recognition for top wedding photojournalism in the industry.
The leading documentary wedding photographers in the world enter their best photos to the Wedding Photojournalist Association's photography competitions. They want their wedding reportage photographs to be evaluated and selected by some of the most notable and respected working picture editors and photojournalists in the news industry (these are not wedding photographers or other WPJA members judging their work). Winning these competitions is a true accomplishment for a wedding photographer.

- Effective image conveying the formality of the reception – nice interplay of the circles of the table, cake, chandelier, and the plasterwork on the ceiling against the more linear elements of the stately architecture – all of which the eye is subtly led through by attention the photographer paid to the quality of light. Inclusion of the open door and the wind blown effect on the table linen adds to an anticipatory feeling of everything in it's place just waiting for the bride, groom and guests who are about to blow through the door.
