Cake Cutting

The angle is as elegant as the kiss, the cake and the tone of color. Shooting from above makes this an unusual cake picture, and the post cutting moment is one of the few ways to shoot this usually messy event clean and graphically.

We all know this is a cake cutting. However, it is more fun to see the less obvious part of the cutting. The angle, color and crop give us a more personal feeling for the cake cutting. The addition of the kid with the camera, and the clever cropping of the image reflects the photographer's ability to see and react quickly.

Wow. What a fresh approach. An Edward Hopperesque image. I like this perspective. The photographer saw an opportunity to gain a new view - a distant one - by going outside and shooting through the glass. Good seeing on the part of the photographer

Before I looked through the images for this contest, I never thought about how difficult it must be to get a nice cake cutting picture. For me, the nice pictures contained something special - like a unique moment, or something funny, or a new perspective. This image is funny, and the moment is unique. It tells a complete story and need no caption. I laughed when I saw it, and it immediately stood out from all the rest.

Not your traditional cake-cutting photo, this shows a great eye for detail, and for the minutiae around the cake.

This looks like a page out of the Alfred Hitchcock wedding album. While this might not be how the happy couple remembers their cake cutting, it will certainly be a topic of conversation. The photographer was lucky that they caught another strobe, or was looking for a cinematic view of the cake cutting. In either case, it is a great shot.

Sometimes it seems like there is no light, and that little light makes the photograph. In this case, the two little girls admiring the cake is just plain different. I like the mystery of it and the composition. The photographer tried something different, and it worked.

These girls spent most of the evening hovering over the cake, I'm pretty sue one of the snuck some frosting off the side.

A lot of cake in the face photos in this category..this one is well composed, at the moment, and makes us feel as though we're there..and thank God we're not.

Unusual approach to a successful photographic cliché. Whether by accident or on purpose, this unusual take on the cake cutting ceremony certainly caught my eye. The red is a nice splash of color. Too bad the man at right didn't move out of the way.

The facial expression on the bride's face makes the frame. Very nice moment, presented in a clean and simple way.

One never knows when a nice photo will present itself. This photographer spent extra time on the cake cutting and the reward is a nice image of a boy getting a taste of the cake. The exposure, composition and timing were perfect.

UDGES COMMENTS: Looks like a “Conde Nast Traveler†photo, which is a compliment!! Nice framing, good moment of the couple kissing, with the all-important cake mirroring bride and groom's pose.

The rest of the photographs in this category are all shot straightforward and are cake cutting and smearing shots and this one is the best of those because of the groom's emotion and the technical quality, which is nice.
