Ceremony

This is an unexpected ceremony shot. The photographer took a risk by leaving the main subject to focus on another part of the ceremony. A risk that paid off very nicely. This photo made me laugh out loud..and it was one I used as a standard for this category.. Well composed with the sweep up from the lady in red to the sweep of the bride's dress.

Another image I kept in the back of my mind..how did it all come together so perfectly? Looks like a movie set image.

When a photograph goes beyond capturing the moment and becomes a dream-like piece of art it goes well beyond recording the ceremony. Being able to get this close, compose it wonderfully and be unobtrusive is a major plus. The seriousness of the presiding official balancing the frame of the obviously happy couple at the moment of their marriage is the crème de la crème of what to strive for; capturing the event in photographs that go way beyond the obvious and say to all couples, I'm not just going to document your wedding I'm going to see it and show it in ways that are beautiful and artistic and in frame like this one, transcend the ceremony.

From the sublime to the sexy, the photo is a moment many might miss. But deciding where to be during the ceremony is important and this photographer captured a wink from the bride that showed happiness and the self assuredness that only come with certainty. When those things are revealed in a photograph, showing the character of a subject, you have an image that will be remembered by all.

Beautiful light, cutting off the adult's presence by cropping effectively, and the hand just preparing to touch the shoulder..one of the triumvirate of images that stayed with me, and that I looked forward to seeing every time I opened this catalog.

Nice light and composition in this frame. I like how the only person not peeking is the bride. It successfully captures the moment before the moment when the bride makes her way out into public view.

This is a beautiful photo. The photographer must have invested time to make sure this shot worked. The photo would not have been nearly as nice if the man was too close to the bride or if the brides flowers were not as defined.

When you can capture the nervousness that is felt by family members, you've got something in the frame. This picture does that nicely. This is a classic moment touching base on so many things.

Much of this category for me was to reward those photographers who took risks by shooting something other than the obvious. This was a great way to photograph a beautiful location for a wedding. Best of all, the family will be able to remember everyone who attended the wedding since they can see their faces.

When you have good composition you're on your way to a decent photograph, but when you add moment, light and a tone of seriousness and importance you have all the elements.
