It looks so simple, but there's a lot going on. First, the eyes. And that hand reaching is with the ring and the almost strange touch. And everything in the frame is in exactly the right place, forming triangles that bring our eyes from one piece to the next. The man in this photograph is seated for a portrait, in a rather straightforward and ordinary pose. But there is nothing ordinary about this black and white portrait. The addition of the woman's arm combined with the intense look of the man's eyes elevates this portrait to another level. I can't stop looking at it.

I really like all the selects in this group, but my favorite by far is this image. I like the creativity and showing the love and fun of marriage. This photo really makes this event feel like a celebration.

This, in my opinion, was the most creative photo in the category. The photographer really went out of his or her way to do something different.

Choice of location, lighting and lens are what makes this black and white portrait so captivating. It has the look and feel of a 1930s portrait. The light on the woman and her dress make her stand out against the shadows on the buildings. The choice of a wide angle lens adds to the vertical thrust of the buildings. The woman's downward gaze is fixed on something outside the frame and causes the viewer to look down and wonder what she sees. This photograph has a terrific feel to it. The lighting makes this image stand out. She is so beautifully lit and it is an interesting perspective.

Another favorite picture. The intensity of the woman's look – heck the fact that she's looking wide-eyed at US while being kissed – makes it hard to look away from this picture. Add a bald head to contrast with her dark hair, just the tips of her fingers, and you've got a picture full of tension and mood. Nice.

Nice that the umbrellas are shades opposite of their carriers.
