I'm going out on a limb to say this one stands a good shot at winning. One of those situations you just hope happens. The serious look on the bartenders face and the tippy-toes on the girl brings it all home. This is a 'pictures of the year' type of shot. The tiptoes are subtle, but bring a spark to an image that at first reads artistic.

The photographer captured a visual chaos, and a completely wonderful compliant young subject as its anchor. Great frame. The little boy surrounded by women is a well-expressed moment of a young man in a woman's world. The hands cradling his face adds to the emotional center of the photograph.

This photo is brilliant. Background is blown-out, not distraction. Different angle and lots of motion. There's such energy in his movement, and in his shape...really dynamic.

This is funny. The frame is really wide, but uses every inch of space to show us the story. Nice seeing. Nice moment. The bride and groom take a backseat the children celebrating. The diagonal composition and the kissing bride and groom make for a telling image.

A whole story in one well-composed photograph. I don't know what else to say, except that every person surrounding this boys makes him look more bored and miserable.

Kids show their emotions in all different ways. The sense of self-satisfaction this boy's face is palpable. What a great moment. The hands and faces of the girls tell us about their world. The straight-into-the-camera look of the boy lets us in on his bemused reaction to the attention of two girls at once.

I was hoping to see some images from a photographer who didn't rely solely on the "cute kids" themselves, and i wasn't disappointed. This photographer took a cute moment, and made it part of a well composed photographer. Well done!

This lovely image of a serious little girl and the light touch of hands arranging her hair is well-composed and the use of light highlights her expression and face.

This is a really wonderful moment. The light works exactly right. They come together to make this boy look really outside the party. I kind of wish the picture weren't tilted. I won't second-guess the photographer, because there may have been something distracting to keep out of the frame by tilting. Too often, however, we think that if we tilt a frame we can make a boring picture interesting, or a mundane picture profound. Tilting does neither. It's not a bad thing to do, of course. Sometimes it works to reinforce the mood or message of a photo. But random tilting is just distracting for photographer and viewer alike.
