Silhouettes are irresistible to most photographers. I suspect that is why a category is dedicated to the technique. But a silhouette alone seldom makes a great image. Don't rely it. An image should still evoke a feeling, tell a story, capture a moment or produce any number of other photojournalistic qualities before it is complete. This image does. What a beautiful image. Exquisite use of light and body language. Graphic and appealing

Attractive photo, divine ray of light on the sandals, technically proficient. A strong category showing a variety of technical expertise combined with subtle and quiet moments...the irony of bridesmaids wearing flip-flops caught in a ray of light.

The photograph of the groomsmen on the rock has a surreal quality that kept drawing me back.

Consider a silhouette simply as another form of lighting. It either helps an image or hurts it. In this image, lighting (a partial silhouette) retains the quality of the moment. Lighting accentuates by isolating the subject while at the same time providing a border to help keep the viewer's eyes within the image.

Lesser photographers would have never seen this image. They would have attached a strobe and blasted it. Thankfully, the photographer yielded to the quality of light, preserving it while still waiting for the moment – a gentle leaning forward that made all the difference.
